The joy of upcycling!

I’ve always enjoyed upcycling and recycling furniture. It’s not just about the money that you can save – but the satisfaction you get from creating something bespoke and unique to you! As an interior designer this really strikes a chord with me. Whenever I work with a client on a project I want to give them something different – a talking point or something they haven’t seen before! This is where an interior designer can really add value – either sourcing hard to find and unusual items or helping to achieve a unique look. For example, upholstering a chair in different fabrics front and back. Here’s an example of a chair that was languishing in an upstairs playroom, which now has pride of place in the living room – see more of this scheme in the portfolio section of this website. Upcycling doesn’t necessarily mean you do the work yourself – here a professional upholsterer was used!                     Of course, a good ‘up-cycler’ will also have an eye for re-purposing furniture – changing the function of a piece of furniture to better suit it’s new owner. Use a trunk as a coffee table and storage, a hat box to store ribbons, or a china cabinet to store your shoes. The best things about up-cycling this piece of furniture? The joy of seeing my shoes every morning when I wake.
