Coastal style

Coastal style

I’ve already blogged about bringing a Tropical feel to your interior – but what about inspiration from closer to home? The UK has a long coast line and so it makes sense that many of us want to bring coastal style into our homes. Coastal style, sea-side or lake inspired interiors are great fun and easy to achieve. You can really go all out – or just give a gentle nod to the theme. For a deck-chair feel try Juliet Taylor Fabrics – from Ocean Living, Island Style to Beach Hut. The collections are enough to have you booking a weekend at the sea-side – if you know me then my spare room is ready! The deck chair stripe evokes child hood visits to the beach, ice creams and Punch & Judy shows and adds a punch of colour and fun – whilst a more grown up coastal feel can be achieved using striped fabrics with blue, white and sandy neutrals.   Nautical fabric prints are another obvious choice to add to the coastal style. From boats, rope or knot patterns, to all manner of creatures from the deep! Use them on blinds & curtains or on cushions and upholstery.   It’s not just about the fabrics – consider the whole of your room when working on any scheme. For sea-side interiors white washed floorboards, or white wood plank walls work well as do painted furniture, flooring and panelling that has a weathered and distressed look . Choose accessories that use chunky rope – such as lanterns or on lamp bases or even door stops. Sea glass and vases in sea jewel colours can be used to good effect....
A Tropical touch for your home interior

A Tropical touch for your home interior

Is summer finally here? As I sit here typing with a view of the sea and the sun shining it certainly feels summery – if not quite tropical! There are some lovely new textiles out from Clarke & Clarke. “Inspired by the French countryside, the Fougères collection is elegant, charming, classical and contemporary. It has a vintage feel and the palette includes natural, noir, raspberry and citrus”.  The pineapple trend seems to be staying on course and Clarke & Clarke have a lovely new print – Ananas – from their Fougères collection. Shown here made up as a lamp shade – this would also look great as a cushion (perhaps piped in a bright pink or lime green?) or as a Roman blind. My long time favourites Rockett St George never let me down for interior styling – and have plenty to offer with a tropical theme. A pineapple nightlight, vase and ornament can all be snapped up plus melamine plates featuring tropical birds, and don’t forget to add the Toucan snow globe (yes really!) to your basket before you check out. The Barneby Gates pineapple wallpaper, also available from Rockett St George, in pink/ red is another winner for me. This would look great in a cloak room – what a great feature wallpaper. Just looking at it makes me smile! If you haven’t already, then check out the Rockett St George summer look book here Rocket St George Look Book I also love the Flamingo print from Clarke & Clarke which is in the Fougères collection. Seen here made up as a Roman blind. Flamingo’s seem to be making something of a comeback right now....
